PREGNANCY WEEK 28! WOOT WOOT!!!
Dear Wren,
Time is flying by and Mommy is in the home stretch of this pregnancy! You are a bruiser already... Weighing in at 3 lbs and 10 days ahead of schedule! Your heartbeat is around 160!!! You can blink your eyes, which now sport lashes. I hope you end up with Mommy's beautiful lashes.....many people think she wears false eyelashes because they are so long, thick and naturally BEAUTIFUL! We noticed just how pretty they were going to be when she was about 3 months old! Mommy also has a beautiful green/blue and sometimes even a hint of brown to her eyes (depends on what she is wearing)...So not only does she have to die for eye lashes...she has killer colored eyes to match! Your eyesight is developing as well as the color of your eyes....you may be able to see the light that filters in through the womb. I wonder what color your eyes will be by the time you are 9 months old, since it takes that long for the true color to develop!? You are also developing billions of neurons in your brain and adding more body fat in preparation for life in the outside world!
Mommy has been swelling ALOT in her fingers, toes, feet and ankles.....she even has pitting skin when she presses her finger on her ankle.....NOT GOOD! Especially since she has gestational diabetes, some protein in her urine and now pitty ankles......some early signs of pre-eclampsia ....So she needs to keep a close eye on her blood pressure. She had the same issues with Gracyn's pregnancy and it never turned into pre-eclampsia.... Fingers crossed the same holds true this pregnancy.
Love, Mimi

PREGNANCY WEEK 27!!! HELLO THIRD TRIMESTER!
Yep, you read that right! 3rd Trimester!!!! This week baby Wren weighs around 2 lbs and is about 14 1/2 inches long from head to toe! He's sleeping and waking at regular intervals, opening and closing his eyes, and perhaps even sucking his fingers. With more brain tissue developing, Wren is very active now. He even reacts to light and noise! While his lungs are still immature, they would be capable of functioning — with a lot of medical help — if he were to be born now. Let's hope he stays put for another 13 weeks!
Mommy is now insulin dependent, but I am very proud of how she is maintaining a healthy diabetic diet. By this time with Gracyn she gained 14 lbs.... This time with you, she has gained around 10-11 lbs....depending on the time of day that she remembers to weigh herself. She is experiencing low iron, and takes an iron pill daily. She also has charley horses in her legs and feet, sciatica pain, and several Braxton Hicks contractions each day. All within normal range this time in the pregnancy..... 3 more days until we get to see you sweet little man, during the ultrasound !!!!

26w5d- GESTATIONAL DIABETES
Sadly but not surprisingly, Mommy has gestational diabetes with this pregnancy as well. After failing the one hour glucose test, they skipped the three hour and went straight to insulin. :-(. Your heartbeat during the visit was 150! Nice and strong! Can't wait to see you on Saturday at the new HD 3d/4d Ultrasound!!!!

PREGNANCY WEEK 26!!!!
Dear Wren,
Mommy is on the countdown to the 3rd trimester! One more week!!! Time seems to be flying by as you continue to grow stronger! According to babycenter.com... Brain waves for the auditory and visual systems are detectable in your brain. That means your brain is registering things like sound and light. You may not understand what any of it means yet, but you're on track to comprehend an entire episode of Blue's Clues in no time! The network of nerves in your ears is better developed and more sensitive than before. You may now be able to hear both your Mommy and Daddy as they chat with each other. When you are born, you will recognize their voices! Even though your eyes are still shut, your eyes are fully developed...soon you will be able to blink! You are inhaling and exhaling small amounts of amniotic fluid, which is essential for the development of your lungs. These so-called breathing movements are also good practice for when you're born and take that first gulp of air. And you continuing to put on baby fat. You now weigh about a pound and two-thirds and measure around 14 inches (the size of a burp cloth) from head to heel.
We get to see you in a HD 3D/4D ultrasound in about 1 1/2 weeks! CAN'T WAIT!
Love you,
Mimi

PREGNANCY- 25 WEEKS!!!!
Dear Baby Wren,
You are growing by leaps and bounds. According to babycenter.com, from head to heels, you now measures about 13 1/2 inches long!!!! You probably weigh about a pound and a half to two pounds ( an average rutabaga ), and you are finally putting on some baby fat! As you gain more fat, your wrinkled skin will begin to smooth out and you'll start to look more and more like a newborn!!!! So exciting! You are also growing more hair — and if we could see it, we'd now be able to discern it's color and texture!
Wren is not the only one with more hair — Mommy's hair is more full and lustrous than ever! At least I think so! Thanks to hormonal changes, the hair that she'd normally shed is sticking around longer than usual. She is even finding dark hairs in places where she doesn't want to see them....like her belly....especially near the belly button!
Mommy has also noticed that she can't move around as gracefully as before. The swelling has taken over the entire body....especially her hands/fingers and feet/ toes! The worst pregnancy systems now include siatic nerve pain, charlie horses in her legs, HEARTBURN and vivid dreams!!! She has also gained 12 lbs. so far......But you are worth it!!
We love you!
Mimi

24w5d- OB APPOINTMENT
Mommy had her OB appointment today. Your HB was 146 and Mommy's fundal height is measuring right on track at 25 weeks! They checked her herniated stomach muscle bed again and so far are just keeping an eye on it......one thing they are concerned about is the tracked blood sugar levels Mommy while being on a strict diabetic diet.....she will take the glucose test next week and may or may not have to go on insulin shots. She may even have to go on weekly OB visits sooner than expected.....time will tell. One thing we know for sure....you are growing right on track!!!

PREGNANCY WEEK 24!!! VIABILITY!!!!
Dear Wren,
This week marks an important milestone in your development....VIABILITY outside of the womb with a lot of medical intervention. Please stay put for another 13 - 16 weeks!!!
You are growing steadily, having gained about 4 ounces since last week. That puts you at around 1.5 to 2 pounds. Since you are almost a foot long (picture an ear of corn), you sport a pretty lean figure at this point, but your body is filling out proportionally and you'll soon start to plump up. Your brain is also growing quickly now, and your taste buds are continuing to develop. Your lungs are developing "branches" of the respiratory "tree" as well as cells that produce surfactant, a substance that will help your air sacs inflate once you hit the outside world. Your skin is still thin and translucent, but that will start to change soon.
Mommy's belly is changing fast! In the past few weeks, the top of her uterus has risen above her belly button and is now about the size of a soccer ball! WOW!!! Her belly button is officially an outtie! You are growing so big that Mommy has been having sciatica pain (has been for several weeks). She is also dealing with gestational diabetes again this pregnancy. She is on a strict 2000 calorie a day diet. Since she started dieting she lost a pound and her belly doesn't feel as full.... But sugars are still all over the place! :-(. The good side to this dieting.... 10 lbs gained since pre-pregnancy.
We love you,
Mimi

23w0d- SCARE
Mommy called this morning all worried.... Today she had clear watery leakage.... enough to soak her panties and sweat pants. Since it was 6:30 in the morning, the on-call midwife suggested she get checked out in labor and delivery at the hospital just to be sure she wasn't leaking amniotic fluid. They did the amnisure test... Thank God it was NEGATIVE! Mommy also checked out negative for any infections. Her cervix was also high and hard,,,, the nurse mentioned she was soft on the outside but she couldn't put her whole fingertip all the way in, since she is hard on the inside..... She wasn't concerned and said this is normal after your first baby.... Hmmmm not sure how I feel about that! They did discover high amounts of glucose in her urine (500 -YIKES!), but blood sugar was 98..... Hopefully she can control her sugars with a diet this time! With Gracyn's pregnancy, she was insulin dependent in her 3rd trimester. Caitlin was sent home with no more answers than when she went in.... But thank goodness she is not leaking fluid!
PREGNANCY WEEK 23!!!
Dear Baby Wren,
Mommy is 23 weeks pregnant! WOOT! One more week to viability! Of course we in no way want to meet you this soon, but it is reassuring to know that we are getting closer to that magic number where you will have a chance of survival outside of the womb. I looked back at your cousin, Nevaeh's blog and noticed that I posted news about our nearest big city being more and more successful at saving babies born as early as 22 weeks, with a lot of medical intervention....that was 5 years ago!!!! :-).
According to Babycenter your sense of movement is well developed by now. Which yours has been for a few weeks now! Mommy can predict when she should be feeling you move around and she has captured those precious movements on video many times now! I love watching them!!!! You are now more than 11 inches long and should weigh well over a pound (about as much as a large mango), you were already measuring 1 lb. a few weeks ago! The blood vessels in your lungs are developing to prepare for breathing, and the sounds that your increasingly keen ears pick up are preparing you for entry into the outside world. Loud noises that become familiar now — such as the dogs barking or the roar of the vacuum cleaner — probably won't faze you when you hear them outside the womb.....especially the loud rambunctious voice of your sister! At least we hope not! I have a feeling you will be the mello one....taking life one day at a time!
Mommy has noticed that her ankles and feet are starting to swell, especially at the end of the day or during the warmer weather this Spring so far! I hate to see what August brings!. This is due to sluggish circulation in the legs — coupled with changes in the blood chemistry that may cause some water retention — may result in swelling, also known as edema. Her body will get rid of the extra fluid after she gives birth to you....this is why Mommy pees frequently and will most likely sweat a lot for a few days after delivery. In the meantime, Mommy can lie on her left side or put her feet up when she can! But that is easier said than done while chasing after a toddler! She also started having inconsistent Braxton Hicks contractions, which are completely normal to have at this stage of the pregnancy!
One week to viability!
Can't wait to post then!
Love Always, Mimi

PREGNANCY WEEK 22!!!
Dear Wren,
According to Babycenter.com you are about 11 inches long (the length of a spaghetti squash) and measuring over 1 pound! You are starting to look like a miniature newborn. Your lips, eyelids, and eyebrows are becoming more distinct, and you are even developing tiny tooth buds beneath your gums. Your eyes have formed, but your irises (the colored part of the eye) still lack pigment.
If we could see inside Mommy's belly, we would be able to spot the fine hair (lanugo) that covers your body and the deep wrinkles on your skin, which you'll sport until you add a padding of fat to fill them in. I remember seeing these deep wrinkles on your cousin, Nevaeh during one of her 3D/4D ultrasounds and I worried that she wouldn't fill them in with baby fat.....now I know differently! :-) Inside your belly, your pancreas — essential for the production of some important hormones — is developing steadily!
On the Mommy front she has all the previous pregnancy symptoms minus the sickness! Her belly is getting heavy already and I think she will invest in a belly band to help get her through the work day! She absolutely loves feeling your strong kicks and so does Daddy!
Love you bunches!
